Alexander Burgess

b. 1992
London, UK

Working primarily with photography, and deconstructing virtual spaces, Alexander Burgess’ practice explores the relationship between the role that photography takes in understanding the virtual worlds manufactured by autonomous systems. His works appropriate small fragments of these digital surfaces, mainly automated digital mapping, through screenshots and screen capturing, and examine the shift of medium from photographic, to the inevitable fabrication of the surface through processes of averaging, cloning and repetition.
Since graduating from Camberwell College of Art, in 2014, Alexander lives and works in London exhibiting in various group shows including Fresh Faced + Wild Eyed at The Photographers’ Gallery, and The Open West, along with showing, constructing and curating solo shows. In 2015 he completed the LIFE BOAT residency forming the basis of his current practice.
